Critical Thinking Virtual Social!
Freedom From Religion Foundation Valley of the Sun Chapter has started our monthly online social discussion series where we celebrate and reward the quest for truth and the pursuit of critical thinking!
Our Next Virtual Discussion: Tuesday, Nov 14th at 6:30PM
The fallacy under discussion will be:
SPECIAL PLEADING
Join us 2nd Tuesdays of every month in exposing logical fallacies, debunking flawed arguments, and promoting rational discourse.
Each month, we explore how a specific logical fallacy is used to manipulate opinions and shape public discourse. By examining real-life examples from politics, religion, media, and everyday conversations, we become better equipped to navigate discussions, debates, and decision-making processes.
Whether you’re a seasoned skeptic or new to logical fallacies, our casual discussion group is open to all levels of familiarity with the topic. This is a collaborative and inclusive environment where everyone is encouraged to share their insights, examples, and perspectives on the month’s fallacy.

Secular Student Scholarships 2024!

FFRF Valley of the Sun Chapter, along with the Humanist Society of Greater Phoenix and Secular Coalition for Arizona, are delighted to announce the launch of a Secular Student Scholarship Program which will award deserving students with scholarships at the conclusion of the 2022-2023 school year.
We have the funding but this program will require the collective power of our community coming together to make a lasting impact! We have several exciting goals in mind, and your involvement can help us turn these ideas into reality. Here’s a quick rundown of the things we will try to accomplish before the scholarship application process opens toward the end of the school year:
- Supporting Secular Students – Encouraging Secular Student Alliance chapters in high schools and colleges, providing resources for secular activism and intersectional activism, collaborating with students on community projects.
- Promoting the Initiative – Utilizing press releases, social media, news coverage, and other channels to increase participation and awareness.
- School Supplies Drive – Planning a donation drive with distribution to beneficiaries in time for the start of 2024 when back-to-school supplies are running low.
Please join us for the Secular Student Scholarship Program planning meetings on the 1st Mondays throughout this school year! For more information please join our newsletter below or contact us if you’d like to help.
We are incredibly appreciative of any amount of help you can give. Commitments are flexible, so please drop by to learn of the different ways you can contribute. Thank you for your support of this new secular community initiative!
Show Up & Speak Out!
Ensuring that public education remains secular and free from religious influence is an ongoing concern as Christian nationalists continue to swarm Arizona school board meetings to protest Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Hot button issues include the use of pronouns and bathrooms, and book bans directed at LGBTQ+ families.
Denying young people access to educational activities such as school sports deprives them of the social, emotional, and health benefits these activities bring. Medical experts agree that gender-affirming care is medically necessary and life-saving for transgender youth.
All students—regardless of race, sexual identity or orientation, ethnicity, religious beliefs or lack thereof—deserve a safe, well-resourced public school where they can learn and grow. We must let defenders of reason on school boards know they are supported by attending the meetings and standing against religious hate.
